In this quarter's RI News & Views, we explore the importance of developing a climate transition plan in line with the three guiding principles of the Transition Plan Taskforce: ambition, action and accountability. Climate transition plans place transparency and accountability at the core of net zero journeys, making them indispensable for all asset owners.

We also consider the rise in shareholder resolutions filed by advocacy groups during this year’s proxy season, using BP as a case study. Exercising voting rights is a direct method of influencing companies’ actions – a fact that hasn’t escaped activist shareholder groups, particularly in the oil and gas industry. And with more and more companies focusing on managing climate-related risks, scrutinising the actions of asset managers as they engage with these companies is fast becoming an essential element of active stewardship.
