Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures 2021 Report

10 Jun 2021

Embedding climate risk into what we do is a core goal for Hymans Robertson. Failure to effectively transition to a low-carbon economy will create social, environmental and economic disruption. It is essential that climate risk is a fundamental consideration in our long-term financial planning advice to clients and how we run our firm. Climate risk was the core focus for the firm for Q1 2021, including the debut of the firm’s climate vision, pledge and beliefs in January 2021.

The Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) was commissioned in 2015 by Mark Carney in his remit as Chair of the Financial Stability Board and with the support of the G20. The TCFD was asked to develop voluntary, consistent climate-related financial disclosures that would be useful in understanding material climate-related risks. The Task Force’s report establishes recommendations for disclosing clear, comparable and consistent information about the risks and opportunities presented by climate change. Their widespread adoption will ensure that the effects of climate change become routinely considered in business and investment decisions. Adoption of these recommendations will also help better demonstrate responsibility and foresight in their consideration of climate issues, leading to smarter, more efficient allocation of capital, and helping to smooth the transition to a more sustainable, low carbon economy.

We have completed a gap analysis against the recommended disclosures of the Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (“TCFD”). In 2020/21 we put our policies into action, setting baseline measurements and establishing the business processes for monitoring and management. We will build on this in future years.

Our TCFD report for the year ended 31 March 2021 can be downloaded via the link to the right. This is the first full report for our firm in respect of the TCFD recommendations.
