Event replay - Breakout 2
Financing the future - redirecting capital to sustainable funds
25 Mar 2021
Overview
For 100 years, we’ve been embracing change, innovating and navigating uncertainty. We’re proud to host our inaugural event on climate change where we share our vision for the future. We want to work with you to make a difference and help build a sustainable future for generations to come.
Watch breakout session 2 from our climate change event, which explored what the drivers of change are and why asset owners need to be proactive in redirecting capital. We discussed both public and private market investment and the different roles they play, while also considering how some of the barriers to change can be overcome.
The pace of change is accelerating as never before and we have to grasp this opportunity. There's a chance to allocate capital to be on the right side of change, but we need to understand that the problems we are trying to solve are both complex and interlinked.
This isn't just about reducing carbon emissions, it's about rethinking where we are allocating capital to at a more fundamental level, because there are multiple changes, all happening together. We can't just think about performance over the short-term, this also needs to be long-term. Smaller schemes can also be part of the change but need to push for it, or be pushed.
We want to play our part in a net-zero carbon future. To mark our 100th birthday we’re making a pledge to become carbon neutral from 2021 and lifetime net zero by 2025. You can find out more about our climate vision here.
