Better Futures 100 - Building a sustainable future for generations to come

25 Mar 2021

Overview

For 100 years, we’ve been embracing change, innovating and navigating uncertainty. We’re proud to host our inaugural event on climate change where we share our vision for the future. We want to work with you to make a difference and help build a sustainable future for generations to come.

Watch the closing address from our climate change event. Lisa Deas summarises the sessions, including our two keynote speeches and three breakout sessions. We hope you leave after watching the event with a sense of optimism aswell as urgency. All the problems are very interlinked, but what will the end solution look like to solve these problems? It can seem like a monumental task, but breaking it down into smaller steps will help on the journey to get there.

Amy Sutherland reflects on what she's learnt after watching the event, and how we can be more engaged on these issues- focussing on actions for individuals as well as institutions. We cover some of the work we've been doing with clients to help them identify their own actions, and to manage the risks and opportunities of climate change better. We've also cut the carbon footprint of our own pension plan and are part of a number of industry groups and initiatives to help drive further engagement and stimulate new ways of thinking.

We are glad to see that over 90% of you who took part in our live poll at the end of the event are now able to identify some extra steps you can take to manage climate risk better, whether that's with your own pension scheme, as an adviser or as individuals.

We want to play our part in a net-zero carbon future. To mark our 100th birthday we’re making a pledge to become carbon neutral from 2021 and to be lifetime net zero by 2025. You can find out more about our climate vision here.
