Hymans Robertson, the independent pensions and benefits consultancy, and the biggest adviser to the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), has announced succession plans for its LGPS Investments team, ahead of the retirement of Linda Selman, Head of LGPS Investment.

David Walker will succeed Linda as Head of LGPS Investments, assuming overall responsibility for LGPS investment policy and advice, as well as the development of services for Hymans Robertson’s LGPS investment clients.

He is currently the lead consultant on a number of LGPS clients, and has been providing investment advice to institutional pension funds for a range of private and public sector clients for many years. As a core member of Hymans Robertson’s public sector investment policy group, he has played a key role shaping LGPS investments policy and advice for clients and the research that supports our clients and consultants.

David will be supported by William Marshall who will become Head of LGPS Investment Clients, a role that will give him responsibility for client relationships and client communications. William is a highly experienced consultant, specialising in providing investment strategy and risk management advice to public and private sector pension schemes.

Commenting, John Wright, Partner and Head of Public Sector, said:

The LGPS is on the cusp of a period of significant change following the announcement in the July Budget that the Government wants LGPS funds to pool investments to significantly reduce cost. The LGPS community is vigorously engaged in a process of investigating ideas and the best ways forward for pooling, looking at how to make substantial savings without compromising performance. Both David and William have been deeply involved in that process and are very well placed to help steer our clients, as well as provide support to the wider LGPS community, through this time of change. Each brings a great deal of experience, expertise and passion to their respective roles and we’re delighted to announce their promotions.

Discussing Linda Selman’s legacy, he added:

The respect Linda commands from the team she leads, and from her local authority and private sector clients, is testament to her selfless leadership and example, her tireless work and the way she has applied her experience and knowledge to the benefit of all our LGPS clients.  Linda has had enormous influence in the industry and her accomplishments in helping shape reforms will benefit the LGPS for many years to come. We’re confident the strong team she has assembled will continue to build on her legacy.
