Rob Harper, a Partner at Hymans Robertson and a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries, has been elected Chair of Abelica Global, a global network of independent and like-minded actuarial firms. As Chair Rob will take on responsibility for the strategic direction and growth of the network, building on recent collaborations between its members firms.

The firms in the network, which consult on employee benefits, insurance and/or investments, all have to meet exacting standards for membership. Each is a leader in its local market and is free to provide advice unconstrained by global policies set by a remote head office. As part of a global organisation, the firms remain fully apprised of international issues and opportunities – and regularly call on the expertise from consultants in other countries to meet broader client needs.

Commenting, Rob Harper, Chair of Abelica Global, said:

“Having been a member of the Abelica network for some time, we’ve always been struck by the degree of collaboration between member firms - from giving a global perspective to a local client problem, sharing ideas or market innovations and best practice from different locations, to serving clients across borders. Clients get the benefit of local expertise augmented by global knowledge.

“What sets Abelica apart from global firms is that the advice clients get is truly independent. All members are fully committed to working closely together as the benefits of doing so have been proven time and again.

“I am passionate about client service and firmly believe that being part of the Abelica network helps all member firms deliver truly world-class service to our clients.”

With over 28 years’ experience in all aspects of pension scheme design and management, Rob Harper advises both corporate and trustee clients, with a particular focus on defined contribution pensions. He works with some of Hymans Robertson’s largest DC clients helping them shape their responses to the multitude of challenges and changes in the UK DC landscape over recent years.

Jeff Stevenson, CEO at U.S. member firm October Three, commenting on Rob’s election, added:

Rob brings both vision and an incredible amount of energy to the role of Chair. Our access to global expertise, tools and resources through Abelica has and will continue to help us to serve both existing and future clients even more effectively, whether at a local or international level.
