I started my career at Hymans last March working as an intern in the Marketing team. I was fortunate to be able to meet the majority of my colleagues in person before lockdown happened. Of my initial 6-month placement I only spent 5 weeks in the office and the rest was spent working from home.

While working from home was a re-adjustment, my placement gave me the opportunity to get involved in a variety of marketing projects. I helped with websites – creating pages and uploading content, I assisted with a wide range of marketing activities and I also helped with our social media channels. This experience was fundamental to my professional development. Doing a variety of tasks helped me explore what I enjoyed doing and narrow down what I wanted to do after graduating.

One of the key projects I was involved in was working on the creation of the Hymans Robertson Foundation website. I learned a lot from this project, such as project planning, working with stakeholders and delivering high quality work on time. I also honed my presentation skills having to present my work back to the Hymans Robertson Foundation Board of Trustees and my team. It gave me a real insight into working in a professional environment and the feedback on this work was really positive. In fact, the team were so pleased with the work I had done that my initial 6 month marketing placement was extended for a further 8 months until I finished university.

I felt really supported in Hymans. As I approached the end of my extended placement, I knew I wanted to learn and develop in other areas. I was also passionate about web development and data analytics and wanted to build my skills in these areas. I had the opportunity to speak to different people across the business and discovered there were lots of interesting projects happening in our I&A teams that suited my skill set and would allow me to develop. The I&A team offered me a full-time opportunity within their new team, which would allow me to develop my skills as well as be involved in delivering quality work. I feel very fortunate to be part of a company that provide learning opportunities to people starting out in their careers.

I am thrilled to work alongside such a group of talented people. They are all passionate about what they do and all have unique set of skills and expertise that I can tap into. I have an opportunity to learn from great people but also have a chance to share my own expertise.

I spent my first month with the I&A learning about the tools and technology we'd be employing on the various projects. I really enjoyed this aspect of upskilling and it allowed me to dive into the new projects with the confidence and skills required.

When I look back at my first day at Hymans, I realise that I’ve come so far but it makes me excited for what’s next. I’ve learnt so much during my time here but there's still a lot more to learn. The internship was a huge step forward for my personal and career development and I’m really grateful to have had the opportunity.

Today, I'm content with where I'm at, and I'm excited about the future at Hymans Robertson. It’s a great company to work for and I would not hesitate in recommending people starting out in their careers to explore the opportunities available in the firm.
