We've analysed the top 40 charities in England and Wales (by income) who sponsor a DB Scheme. Charity income is on the rise and has now exceeded pre Covid-19 levels. At the same time, the pension scheme funding levels have also improved significantly.

In our 2024 report, we consider what this will mean for charities and the schemes they sponsor, and outline the following recommendations:

  • Charities should explore endgame options for their DB schemes, prioritising member interests.

  • Charities and trustees must comply with the new DB funding code, focusing on employer covenant and staying up-to-date on relevant regulations.

  • Charities should manage DB scheme projects efficiently, with a clear path to streamline costs and minimise time for tasks like GMP equalisation and data review.
