In this Capital Markets Update, Chris Arcari shares the latest trends in the market for Q4 of 2024.

Sticky underlying inflation, strong US growth and expectations of an inflationary policy mix under President-elect Trump made markets question how far – and how fast – interest rates will fall in Q4.

In Q4, sovereign bond yields surged, closing the year significantly higher. Hawkish statements from the US Federal Reserve (Fed) slowed equity gains in December. Despite this, the FTSE All World Total Return Index increased by over 20% in 2024, while credit spreads narrowed, finishing at historic lows.
