Investment Perspectives - April 2023

calendar icon 12 May 2023
time icon 5 min

It’s been another quarter defined by uncertainty, with concerns about rising inflation and a potential banking crisis at the forefront of investors’ minds. We hope these collected articles inform you of our thoughts on the current state of investment markets, while demonstrating some of our best thinking about the future.

In this quarter's edition:

  • We start with the second in our series focusing on endgame planning. Stephen Jasinski discusses how your investment strategy can evolve to be ready for buy-out, including how its exposure to growth and income assets will change over time.
  • Penny Cochrane makes the case for a strategic allocation to private markets, weighing up illiquidity against the potential benefits of outperformance and diversification.
  • Sanjay Joshi explores the topic of impact investing, asking how it squares with trustees’ fiduciary duties.
  • Iain Campbell examines the theme of rising inflation and sets out how LGPS clients can invest in inflation drivers.
  • From a responsible-investment perspective, Olivia Mooney and Jaid Longmore discuss what to expect from passive managers in the forthcoming AGM voting season.
  • We close the issue with our regular capital markets update, by Chris Arcari.

General Investment Risk Warning

Please note the value of investments, and income from them, may fall as well as rise. This includes but is not limited to equities, government or corporate bonds, derivatives and property, whether held directly or in a pooled or collective investment vehicle. Further, investments in developing or emerging markets may be more volatile and less marketable than in mature markets. Exchange rates may also affect the value of investments. As a result, an investor may not get back the full amount of the original investment. Past performance is not necessarily a guide to future performance.
