Overview

The Pensions Regulator (TPR) published its 2023 Annual Funding Statement on 27 April.

As DB funding continues to improve, the 2023 Annual Funding Statement increasingly speaks to schemes that are well-funded and close to buy-out, as well as those focussed on repairing deficits. TPR is encouraging trustees’ thinking on long-term planning, protecting gains and, if insurance is the goal, getting buy-out ready. 2023 is set to be a very busy year in the risk transfer market as many schemes re-assess their end game journey plans and seek quotations.

High inflation, high interest rates and slow economic growth all affect pension scheme funding and sponsoring employers. Whilst investment changes and longevity uncertainty throw up other questions, giving you plenty to think about.
