Why Hymans?

Whether it’s assessing how well your scheme delivers value for members, supporting members in their journey to and through retirement, or leading the way with best-practice governance, we help trustees run effective schemes that achieve better outcomes for members.

The pensions landscape is changing. Trustees must navigate increasingly complex and comprehensive regulatory requirements, shore up their scheme’s defences from cyber-attacks and set and deliver on diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) objectives, to name only a few priorities.

Best-in-class governance isn’t just about compliance; it’s a way to enhance member value, minimise risk and create better member outcomes.

Our advice is pragmatic, independent, tailored and outcomes-focused. Living and breathing governance processes help keep the scheme fresh and benefiting from new ideas.

We help defined contribution (DC) trustees, in single trusts or master trusts, deliver best-in-class governance through a bespoke, proportionate and high-quality approach.

Our technology and services

Our Guided Outcomes (GO™) proposition changed the narrative in DC, refocusing on member outcomes and benefit adequacy. GO was launched in 2013 and combines three principles to understand and improve member outcomes:

  • Setting targets based on the income members will need when they retire.
  • Understanding what members’ current savings could provide.
  • Determining actions members, or employers, can take to improve outcomes.

In 2019, we worked with the Pensions and Lifetime Savings Association to launch their retirement living standards (RLS), using GO to assess the benefit adequacy of the UK population.

GO is now an integral part of our work. We use it to create insightful governance analytics, inform decisions on investment strategy and scheme design, and support member communications and engagement.

The technology behind GO has evolved into our Hymans Expected Retirement Outcomes modeller (HERO) which allows us to benchmark against more than 17 other provider strategies, modelling decumulation as well as accumulation solutions in one groundbreaking tool.

  • value for member assessment and benchmarking
  • board and operational effectiveness
  • risk management
  • policies and processes
  • support with regulatory compliance
  • at-retirement strategy reviews
  • holding providers and advisers to account
  • supporting member engagement and communications.
